You probably learned language by first making sounds, then words, then sentences and longer utterances. This is called analytical language development. Imagine a triangle with the point at the top.
Gestalt Language Learners (or Processors) learn language the other way - from memorized scripts (or Gestalts) then broken down (mitigated) into different phrases then words then sounds.
Literacy does not depend on speech, although kids who are multi-modal communicators (AAC users) may struggle with reading. Gestalt Language Learners are likely learning to read from memorized phrases first.
Both neurotypical and neurodivergent humans use either or both methods of developing language!
